Owl,

I will tell you (not necessarily saying that this is the case) that over the years it has been very difficult making sure that what sounds good on one person's system sounds good on another. Although you are saying that it is appearing on only the 2 new cars, I'm not sure what you're hearing...it sounds good on mine and I don't detect any area that sounds "dead". If you can record something on a separate audio (such as a wav/mp3 recorder, phone, or something similar), maybe we can check out what you are hearing.

Cheers!

It could also be that because the mazda engines are so blasted loud that the source I pulled from had to limit, therefore reducing sensitivity to the softer volumes. That Watkins sound is overblown when the power is on. That car probably is the worst car to try and emulate. It has very distinctive characteristics and dynamics. It is easy to hear when something doesn't sound spot on. Thanks again for taking the time to give feedback.

I've noticed the sound thing as well on the two new cars. People have told me I am overly sensitive to this type of thing, so don't take me too seriously :) I have edited .sfx files and replaced sound files on another mod I use, so I know it does not cause online mismatches and keeps me from over-revving engines. Currently I have temporarily subbed in the volvo sound for the mazda one and I am experimenting with a couple different big V8 cars to sub for the Dodge. It is the off-throttle volume level that is bugging me in both cases.

edit: Woops, I remembered the other sound thing that was bothering me. The pitch of the RX-8 internal on-throttle sound dips slightly near the end of the sample, making it sound like the engine is bogging down. This is really only noticeable when you are slowly climbing to the limiter in 5th gear and the pitch is not being changed much by rising engine RPM. I tried playing around with the sample in a .wav editor but I have not come up with a satisfactory result yet.

This is the other problem besides the sound systems. My hearing has been wrecked by loud rock music (front row at AC/DC), loud engines (standing next to a top fueler at Santa Pod), shooting guns (rifles, shotguns, pistols), driving tractors (Farmall H, C, John Deere 3020 and Massey 65) and working on jet fighters (the RAF Tornado is painful to be around). What chance do I have of picking up simple nuances of sound? :rotflmao: :phhht:

Be careful what you say. We kidnap people who say they are sound editors and make them work for nothing... :bg:

Cheers!
