I appreciate a lot of members here race offline and live in America, but I thought this might be interesting to at least a few, 8pm UK time is 3pm EST fyi.
In a slight departure from the previous Trophy Nascar series offered at V8Thunder, we are happy to announce a full 36 race series mirroring the Sprint Cup schedule for 2011.
The opening race will be V8Thunder's inaugural 'V8Thunder Cup Series Daytona 500' taking place on Thursday 24th February, followed by Nascar's last race on Phoenix's 1 mile flat oval a week later before the track is reconfigured.
Incorporating the chase for the Top 12 drivers, the Cup series will encounter the best virtual tracks of America, stopping at various legendary raceways such as Bristol to Talladega, Sonoma to Loudon. The series will run on subsequent Thursday's throughout the year following the real Nascar Sprint Cup race at the track, leading to the 1st V8Thunder Cup Champion being crowned at Homestead in November.
The Series will utilise the BullRing NR2003 Sprint Cup Mod with standard Cup physics, open setups and hardcore mode (open views). RaceDay events will run to usual V8Thunder schedule with qualifying at 8pm UK time, followed by a 10 minute Happy Hour with the races run to approx. 50% real distance, at 2x pitting, and full frozen field / lucky dog rules in effect. The points system is still being thrashed out, but if it's possible we will use the 2011 Sprint Cup Series points structure.
To encourage preparation from all the participants, an open "official" practice session will take place each Wednesday, a day prior to the race with a base setup provided.
Previously V8Thunder has been maintained and funded by the Administrators and also latterly by Board members in exchange for privileges such as access to a sub forum, additional car files and input on the decision making process for upcoming series. To replace this voluntary scheme, all participating drivers will now be required to pay an entry fee of €5, a months grace will be given with payment required before 20th March 2011, or within 14 days if submitting an entry after 6th March, we feel that €5 is a nominal fee to participate in a 36 race series lasting 10 months, all funds will be used to maintain the V8Thunder Website/Hosting & Online Servers.
Granted, due to circumstance and timing, the off season is going to be a short one, so provisional points of a to be determined amount will be given to drivers joining the series late, up to a point. But racers like to race!
Entries are now open on the V8Thunder website:V8Thunder Cup Series Entry Form
We hope to see you on track next Wednesday and Thursday at the repaved Daytona International Speedway for the V8Thunder Cup Series Daytona 500!
