hi all,
i'm putting a car together in rfactor. i get it to the spinner, select a track, click "load circuit". and here is where my problem lies.....

the status bar of the track screen goes right to the end and stops. nothing else happens. i have to "control-alt-delete" to get out of it, this happens with all tracks i try to go to.

so i used the - trace=30 option and found this at the end of the resulting LOG file....

firstly, i havent been to this track before so i wont have a setup for it (svm)
secondly, i've never known a track to require an ini file before.

My first thought would be a gen file issue. If it loads in spinner although crashes on track.

You can have a track file call for a default setup. Might want to check and see if that's the case. The file has to be in the track folder.

do you mean the track folder in 'Player/settings/track or Locations/track

i ended up putting a setup in both and it didnt help.

The SVM location and name is defined in the track GDB.

A quick and dirty test would be to completely remove the Calder track folder from the install and see if the problem occurs again. There's nothing in your car files named Calder is there?

With the trace option still turned on, try going to one of the rF included tracks (like Toban). When it crashes/halts on the loading, check to see if you are getting similar errors, but with the different track name. If it can't find the .ini file for the included track, then you might have something messing up your pathway to the track stuff (or to some other critical files) and you need to check the .rfm file for your mod. There will be a line in there for "TracksDir=". By default this is commented out, but points to \GAMEDATA\LOCATIONS\. There are other lines that point to player data, etc.

If it's not a problem with a path in the rfm, then Kevin is likely correct about it being an issue with the gen file or such. In my experience, if I'm missing a mesh or gmt, I get a pop-up error when the track is loading and get a default/box car on-track. If I've got a wrong path listed in the gen file or a messed up mas file that won't load, then I get a crash that either hangs the game or exits to desktop.

i think the track is probably loading fine until it gets to seeing what car should be loaded...
to me, it looks like the problem is vehicle folder structure.
the log shows your trying to include a /...skins folder, and i see a /misc folder, and i even see a misc folder placed outside your skins folder with some incorrect windows file naming.
try getting a car in game first without a /...skins or /misc folder.
put all your base car.dds and windows.dds and .veh file straight into the /34ford folder.
i would try to get your base vehicle loading to track first before trying to add skins.

Some things found so far Angus with the files you sent me.

Engine.gmt's 03 thru 16A have an errant material called "material>"
Engine gmt 17 has a wcwindow texture.

These are all called out by your upgrades.ini ( might be a place to revisit structure. I will look at it further as well)

Almost all engines have some errant poly's / textures left over. I am guessing the engine at the very least is some sort of conversion from another mod.

Making any change to the textures called out in the gen files (ie: changing the gmt name from windows to window will generate the necassary error message and load the track.)

That said your gens work as needed. At least for now.

Your rfm calls for DragFactor under vehicle filter in the season section where it should be HotRod. This is based on your veh filter under teams/ player.

I decided to do some somethnig ridiculous and load a VW Lupo into your mod. By changing the search paths to match yours. The Lupo works fine.

That said the issue appears to be between your upgrades.ini and your gmt's.

Will look at everything further, although though you might like an update on things checked out thus far. The model is bad ass and looks like it will be a cool mod.

Just need to nail down what the issue with the gmt's and upgrade is.

Thanks for your results, the engines arent a conversion they were made by me for my dragfactor mod, even though there are latant material references these engines work perfectly in my dragfactor mod, even the upgrades of them.

As a matter of fact i used them in this mod because i knew they worked, but i will implement your suggestions and reload all engines into my 3d program and check out 'material>' and the wcwindow.

Im at work atm but will go through your report closely when i get home, the reason i came to the pits with my issues was because you guys here are awesome at this kind of thing, ive had some problems fixed by you guys before and had great results.

Thanks for the 'bad ass' comment about the car, i got sick of all the F1, bmw, dirt, and spors car mods and i wanted to do something from way at left field. I also have a 32 ford and 23 t-bucket to put into this mod.

ok, i changed this.....

anyway, i ran the mod but this time i used my master track folder........D:\Locations, it has about 200 tracks in it and i use it to direct all my installed mods to.

well its wednesday morning where i am, about 11:28 am.

i tried something totally different earlier, rather than use files from another mod i put my files into another mod, and changed my file references to the mod i was in. i made some progress, in a way i suppose. the car showed on the spinner, then i went to go to a track, rfactor didnt hang and i didnt have to ctrl-alt-delete, it went to the pit garage but alas it was only a temp car..........but at least it got there

Just noticed this evening that your wheel assemblies are all a single part. No seperate spindle / caliper as called out by the suspension.pm is called out in your gen files.

Still looking further although with a different set of wheel assemblies I am able to load your base car. Take a look at other mod gen files for example, NAGT included.

Will get back to you further on any issues. Loading it a few pieces at a time to find additional errors.
