Ok I've spent the past few days looking for a clue on this. I've tried many many different things to make it work to no avail. Is there a set guide somewhere I've missed? I have my glow named discglow like I've read you're supposed to but the problem I get is that no matter what I do the glow shows all the time. Even when the brakes are cold. Can somebody please point me in the right direction?

Hi Flash,

I believe this is what your looking for?

Setting up discglow in rFactor

The material needs to be named discglow and the gmt’s have to be set to moveable.
Then the centre needs to be the same as the wheels.
I’m not too sure if it’s important, but name it carname_LF_dg.gmt (LF LR RF RR, left/right front/rear)

You don’t need to set up any animation the game engine does all that for you, as long as the material is named discglow it should all work.

Then add the instance into the wheel instance,

/////// Left Front Tire and Spindle //////////
Instance=LFTIRE
{
Moveable=True
MeshFile=Carname_LF_bdisc.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False LODIn=(0.00) LODOut=(20.0) ShadowReceiver=True
MeshFile=Carname_LF_dg.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False LODIn=(0.00) LODOut=(20.0) //Disc Glow
MeshFile=Carname_LF.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False ShadowCaster=(True, Solid, 128, 128) LODIn=(0.00) LODOut=(150.0) ShadowReceiver=True
}

In the hdv file add this line to the end of each of these 4 sections ([FRONTLEFT], [FRONTRIGHT], [REARLEFT], [REARRIGHT])

BrakeGlow=(100.0,200.0)

That 100-200 is a very low figure, it will need to be changed, but when set like that you will see the glow come on really fast. (good for testing)
The first number is when the disk starts to glow, the second number is when its glowing fullest.

Cheers!

Hi mianiak,
First off, thanks for the quick reply!

I have my dg object set with DISCGLOW.dds. My GEN file is set up how you have yours. The heat setting in the HDV file is set how you have yours also. What is happening is that the glowing object is constantly there. It's acting like the rotor itself. It rotates at wheel speed and will follow the wheel if I turn left or right. You say it has to be set to moveable. Is that just in the instance in the GEN file or also in the export from max? I have no idea how to set the center point in max and if I export the glow objects with the "move" option turned on in the GMT exporter, it produces some hilarious results. I have never had to set center points for anything else. Wheels and rotors seem to work fine on their own without anything more than being exported from max. I'm sure I've confused you by now but I've spent the past few days worth of my spare time trying to figure this out to no avail.

Are your brake temperatures at rest above the minimum glow value?

Looks like one other thing missing. The material for the diskglow texture needs to be setup for transparency. In the material editor, set the material for "Src Alpha" and "Inv Src Alpha".

Scott, you always seem to have the right answer. Thanks so much! Sorry for the slow response. Internet in Iraq is sketchy at best.

I can only imagine sketchy Internet access in Iraq. I'm often slow to reply and I've got solid connections at home and work. So no worries there. I'm just glad one of us was able to help you find the problem.
