hi everyone,
has anyone converted a f1c track to rfactor! the file structure for f1c has mass files and .scn .I know f1c mas files are different to the rfactor mas files .Has anyone converted the f1c mas files to rfactor mas.

I tried the 3dsimed texture browser option but the f1c unpacked mass files dont show up. Do I need to get a converter for the f1c mass files so i can convert then to rfactor mas.

Also i unpacked the f1c mas files in a folder and using 3dsimed imported the f1c .scn file but nothing happens when i open the scene file.

I find the 3dsimed has alot of problems i cannot open anything at all ,and I follow everthing to a tea to what you guys say in the other posts.

There needs too be a step by step tutorials on how to use this editor as its very difficult to get anyway with it.

help please!! any help would be appriecated

You have to convert the .GMT files within the .MAS to have any chance of converting a track.

Cheers!

I know that this is an old post, but I am having a similar problem...well sorta.

I have succesfully converted GPL tracks using 3dSimEd (Great tool) to rFactor using Steve Dienes tutorial.

I thought I had succesfully converted my F1C Detroit82 track, but cannot get it to load. I am assuming that there is a step I missed...

Is there an issue with shaders or similar that must be done? Is there a guide to what has to be done to convert the gmt files?

Cheers

EDIT: Its working now.... :hmmm:

This is my own personal tutorial. I've got it on the web and make my adds. Thanks to the first autor.

Steps to Convert F1C tracks to rFactor

Select a F1C track and copy the track to a work folder.

Inside the work folder create the following folders.
mas, mapmas, combine, gmt, tex, track, and rFact

Using 3dsimed click on 'Tools' and then 'Expand'
Click 'F1-2001,2002,Cc.mas'
Locate the {trackname}.mas file
when asked where to extract the file locate the mas folder in the above work folder.

Use 3dsimed again and click on 'Tools' and then 'Expand'
Click 'F1-2002,2002,Cc.mas'
Locate the {trackname}MAP.mas file
when asked where to extract the files locate the mapmas folder in the work folder.

Exit 3dsimed or minimize it.
Go to the mas folder and copy the contents to the combine folder.
Go to the mapmas folder and copy the contents to the combine folder.

Reopen 3dsimed.
Click on 'File' and then 'Import As Object(s)'
Locate the Combine folder and highlight all the objects in the Combine folder.
Click 'Open'.

After a few seconds the track should appear in the window.
If the track does not appear or there is a lot of pink, try another track.
Once you have a track appearing in the window click on 'Save as rFactor .GMT'
click on 'Save Objects'. Locate the gmt folder in your working folder.

Click on 'File, Export Textures' and locate the 'tex' folder in the work folder, click 'OK'.
When asked to rename the files, click 'NO'.

Close or minimize 3dsimed.

COPY (do not move) the files in the gmt folder to the track folder.
COPY (do not move) the files in the tex folder to the track folder.

Open 3dsmed again and 'Import As Object(s)' from the track folder.
If the track appears, it usually means most items were converted correctly.
Close 3dsimed.

Open the MAS.EXE tool from ISI create mas files.
Click on 'Edit' and then 'Add Files'.
Locate the gmt folder and delete output.scn (or _output.scn) then highlight all the items.
Click 'Open'.
Click 'Save As' and enter {trackname}.mas
Save the file to the rFact folder.

--

Using the MAS.EXE program click on 'New'.
Click 'Edit' and 'Add Files'.
Find the tex folder and highlight all the objects then click 'Open'.
Click 'Save As' and type {trackname}MAP.mas
Save it to the rFact folder.

The rFactor folder should have two mas files in it.

In the rFactor folder make a new folder {trackname}
Inside the {trackname} folder make another folder {trackname}.
Close the second {trackname) folder.

Move the {trackname}.mas file and the {trackname}MAP.mas files into the first {trackname} folder.

There should be three files in the folder. (2 files an 1 folder)

Open the inside {trackname} folder.
From the original F1C track copy:
the AIW file, the CAM file and the original SCN file. If there is a LOD.jpg file copy it also.

Go back to the F1C Circuits folder and copy the terrain.ini file to this folder also.

Rename the terrain.ini file {trackname).tdf
(Si no existe yo copié desde otro circuito y lo renombré)

Rename the LOD.jpg file {trackname}_loading.jpg

Copy a gdb file from a working rFactor track to the folder and rename it {trackname}.gdb
Edit the gdb file to show the new track name in each place the old track name appears.

Below the line:
Track Record =
add the line
TerrainDataFile={trackname}.tdf

Save the gdb file.

Open the {trackname}.scn file. Make a copy first.
Delete everything except the skybox section.
The revised scn file should appear as below.

CUBEASF
//-------------------------------------------------------
SearchPath=.
SearchPath={trackname}
SearchPath={trackname}\{trackname}
//-------------------------------------------------------
MASFile=COMMONMAPS.MAS
MASFile={trackname}.MAS
MASFile={trackname}MAP.MAS
//-------------------------------------------------------
View=mainview
{
Clear=False
Color=(164, 218, 249)
Size=(1.0, 1.0) Center=(0.5, 0.5)
FOV=(77.75, 62.50)
ClipPlanes=(0.50, 650.00)
View=rearview
{
Clear=True
Color=(164, 218, 249)
Size=(512.0, 256.0) Center=(128.0, 64.0)
FOV=(62.5, 62.5)
ClipPlanes=(0.50, 150.00)
}
}
//-------------------------------------------------------
GroupMethod=LinkSingle
AmbientColor=(145, 157, 163)

FogMode=LINEAR FogIn=(300.00) FogOut=(1800.00) FogDensity=(0.00) FogColor=(169, 197, 210)
//-------------------------------------------------------
Light=FDirect01
{
Type=Directional Dir=(0.28,-0.93,-0.23) Intensity=(1.7) Color=(255, 255, 255)
}
//-------------------------------------------------------
Instance=skyboxi
{
Moveable=True
MeshFile=skyboxi.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
Instance=Sky
{
Moveable=True
MeshFile=Sky.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
}
}
//--------------------------------------------------------

Or, open a working rFactor scn file.
Copy the same section from a working rFactor track and paste it in the new {trackname}.scn file.

Using a bulk text editor (Notepad or Editpad Lite is a good freeware program), open the new scn file.
Search and replace all mts to gmt.

Save the new file.

Check to see if all spelling is correct and in the right place.

Using the MAS.EXE program .......
From a working rFactor track extract the sky.gmt and skyboxi.gmt files and put them with the mas files.

There are 4 SKYXX.dds 00, 01, 03 and 04 files which also must be extracted.

Also find BAK2.DDS, BKA.DDS, BAKA.DDS, BAKB.DDS and BAKC.DDS files and copy them to the same folder as the mas files.

Copy the track to the rFactor\Locations folder and try it.

Some tracks work perfectly the first try. Most tracks will have a missing graphic file or a gmt error.
Make careful note of loading errors and try to locate the missing file.

If the track contains a lot of mts file 3dsimed has problems handling a large number of files at once. You might want to convert some of the mts to gmt at one time.

There are some tracks it appears that no matter what you do, just won't work.

Good LUCK!
