Seems like racing games have hit their peak. Havent seen many games that look much better than rfactor (except maybe race driver grid). I dont think car and track models can get much better. It seems to me the only way to improve graphics now is to have some sort of advanced lighting model or something. But models and textures seem to be as good as they'll ever be.

thoughts?

The next big thing is trying to get Stereoscopic 3D into games, so now imagine the infamous fusion glitch from the NASCAR Racing series in pure 3d and you'll see the wackiness of the concept.

Although it would be real nice to have life-like trophy girls in rF2....

Graphics could be much more improved, but hopefully the developers focus on physics and realism instead.

theirs racing games that have better graphics then rfactor. Forza 3, dirt 2, i've seen others but never tried them.

I guess you haven't seen Dirt 2 with DirectX 11. That game is the most realistic looking racing game I've ever played and blows rFactor out of the water. Graphics are always evolving, there is no "hitting their peak". As long as technology improves so will the games and graphics, it sounds like to me you haven't tried any new games lately.

idk when they can model everyting with realsize textures and fully lasered 3d models of everything. and it looks better than real life, there will be a peak lol.

That number is based on astrology and superstition. Won't happen!

Using life-size textures might not be a good idea. The graphics cards would be overloaded easily. Although you could make very high resolution textures.

PS: They already can model things using lasers. The technology was used with ARCA SimRacing when they modeled the tracks for that simulator.

I don't really think there is a 'peak.' Just put out higher resolution models and textures (to amaze users of your accuracy but overload their graphics cards) and make sure the physics are accurate and put out new tracks and vehicles. Plus, you can always add more features to a program with DLL's (if the program supports third party DLL's and if you know enough C++ to do it).

Peaked? I don't think we are even near that yet. Remember how many times over the years we've been blown away by the latest greatest hardware advancements that let graphics take a new step forward?
5-10 years from now we'll look back at rFactor the same way we look at the games from the Win9x era now.
