Okay, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have all of the track geometry between the walls completed. The bad news is that sandbox keeps crashing (on start) and even though I can fix that problem, the problem comes back too frequently for me to deal with. So this track and all of my other projects (except for my website) are on hold until I can find a more permanent solution for this software error.

School of hard knocks.

Yah know I really don't want to comment because it will probably will be ignored as a "Yeah I did that or Yeah I know that's not it". But when you work with Sandbox you have to be very careful with the geometry. When you change or add something it would be wise to save it, close it, reload it. Have several backups that load properly. Don't forget "rebuild track"

You haven't given enough info on your glitch, for more help from others, but somewhere down the road you did something in the track that Sandbox doesn't like. PS your talking about Sandbox in an rFactor thread. Not too many experts will look here for a NR2003 problem.

Good luck.

3d max? Use trkmaker and import into max, at least you would be able to finish it. Or do you plan to go straight from #$%& to rf?

Wrangler:
After I delete all references to sandbox from the registry, the program works fine and the track loads perfectly. But after a few uses (or another modification to the registry) the program stops working again.

By the way, this thread is in the rFactor section because most of the features on the track are only going to be available for rFactor. It would take several times longer to create an infield drivable on NR2003. For this thread, NR2003 is irrelevant.

NSRSFreew67:
3DS Max might work if I could afford it or find a previous version for significantly less than $3495. By about $3400. Plus I don't think I know how to use enough of the features to make a good track from scratch. Much less, a multiple course track from scratch. At least not one with precise measurements.

If I can get the computer's systems stable enough to allow sandbox to run without suddenly quiting on me, I will use sandbox to export several DXF models of the track at different resolutions to make the infield in gmax. Find some sort of exporter (like .OBJ) and use another modeling program to export the new models to 3DS to be converted into 3do and gmt file formats for track release. Right now, I have to use gmax for almost everything.

And right now, I avoid using TRK Maker whenever I can avoid it. I'm not sure if the glitch is because of my computer or a programming glitch, but TRK Maker isn't working well. I do use it to create the cameras and GDB files though. I use 3D SimEd for basic modeling and converting between mesh and texture formats.

Other Info:
This problem of sandbox not even starting has never happened before with me. It crashing after I close it is also new, but I won't loose any data if I close sandbox after I save. Sandbox will also crash after taking a screenshot in the Camera View if I use sandbox's screen capture function. That too is new. I can resolve the not starting issue by clearing the registry of all sandbox references.

Then I was confused that it was a Sandbox problem you posted which is NR2003

Take a look at Blender. It may not be right for you, but it is an option.

I'm currently using blender to convert models from gmax to 3DS. As well as a gmax script that I found. I'm thinking of using anim8tor instead of blender for the conversion.

I have resolved the software error (for now) and have resumed work on the track. I have started on the first of 4 infield courses. The estimated length of the course will be 1.565 miles (without hills). The route looks a little different than what I intended it to be. I'm going to put the hills in the course and then start on the other infield course. Before I put the hills in, I'm going to put in the geometry on the outside of the outside wall on the main course, then put the scoreboard and garage areas in.

It should go well after I reinstall the operating system. Don't worry though. I have it backed up. I overlooked the fact that I need rumble strips, tire walls and gravel on the road course routes so I've been working on that. And I'll give you an update after I get the operating system reinstalled and the data restored.

Well, I'm now working on my tracks on the other computer. The disk type I used for the back-up of this track cannot be read by the computer. However, I'll give you the updates anyways.

I'm wanting to decrease the banking to 25 or 30 degrees in the corners. The corner radius is wide enough that I think I could get by with only a 25 or 30 degree banking in the corners. If I can get by with a 25 degree banking, I'll reduce the banking on the straights to 0 degrees.
