Sorry to bug you so soon with a bug report. Graphics Card specs are attached, I hope that this helps.

Crashes Caused by:
  • GMT Objects, not models. Crashes when scene is opened regardless of settings.
  • 3DO Objects in PTF, or imported as objects. Crashes if right-clicked on an object with "Two Pass Selection" or "Quick Selection" enabled.
  • MTS Objects, not models. Crashes if right clicked on an object with "Two Pass Selection" or "Quick Selection" enabled.
  • MDL files. Crashes when file is loaded.

Miscellaneous Bugs (no crashes):
  • Vertices dialog, "Update All Found Points" is broken.
  • BMP -> MIP conversion may cause image height to be reduced by half. The texture is not stretched if this happens.

It's almost certainly the Video/OpenGL driver operation such as Quick Selection need very few OpenGL commands to work.

You could try, if you have not already, using Fragment Program Rendering or switching off all shaders using the Home->Open GL Options to switch off the loading GLSL and Fragment Program.

Cheers!

No affect, but thanks for the suggestions. Two Pass Selection and Quick Selection still give me a crash when I right click on an object.

You are running a netbook/notebook?, were earlier versions of 3DSimED OK?, I don't seem to have any problem on a Samsung NC10 with the Intel 950 graphics chip and I don't think anything has changed on the OpenGL side scince 2.13.

Cheers!

I don't remember much about earlier versions of 3D SimEd except the object I clicked on was selected every time and with the past few versions, it's been very hard to select an object without using Quick Selection. I don't think I had much problems with the selection before the 2.x versions came out and I don't remember any crashes. I tried updating the graphics drivers, but that only made it worse. I am running on a laptop. Acer Extensa 5620Z. It has an integrated graphics card.

From memory, I was only working with PTF, 3DO, and MTS files. I had no problems that I can remember. If I knew the date that I first ordered 3D SimEd I could probably get a version number and try that out. Also, some of the work then was on a different computer, because (1) I didn't have a laptop then or (2) the laptop was being reformatted.

If I can give you the email I used to order 3D SimEd, could you find the date that it was ordered and send me the version that was in use during that time?

From my records, I think you had a very early version 2.0 but I am convinced no version would work properly - you just have too many problems.

Have you tried this page to update your graphics driver?.

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/chpsts/965m/

and, in particular

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelg965/sb/CS-023713.htm

the latter page specifically states that for OpenGL you need to download separately from Windows update which will not give you full OpenGL support.

Cheers!

Okay, thanks for the tips. I'll post back later to tell you the results.

Well, the new graphics driver loads 3d scenes more quickly than the other one. But the framerate is much lower and has no affect on the crashing bugs. I with that someone would make some PCMCIA graphics cards.
