Whats the latest version of the installer?

The latest version to date is version 1.03.0001 (v1.3 on the application title). You can check the version by finding the TPTCC.EXE file and looking at it's properties.

Where are my files backed up to?

Not all of the standard Nascar 2 files are backed up during installation. I decided that as these files exist on your Nascar 2 CD it was easy to replace them from there rather than use and extra 12MB of Hard Disk space to back them up. However, your original car, driver list and track files are backed up during installation. The files that you need to replace from the CD are the sound.dat, layout.dat, and cars.dat, into their respective directories.

Installation creates a folder/directory under your Nascar 2 directory called 'backup' and further directories for your tracks beneath that.

Your car files and driver lists are held in the 'backup' directory and can be copied back into the Nascar 2 'cars' directory when needed.

The track directories contain the LP files, track TXT and graphics for the tracks before installation and the relevant track files can be found in the directory of it's name.

Error - Wrong version of runtime DLL

Should you get any error when attempting to run the installer it is possible because of a conflict in Visual Basic Runtime files.

    The scenarios are....

  • Your running Windows 95 and the Runtime installer has not correctly installed the files.
  • A Runtime file is missing.

When installation of the Runtime files takes place, any existing files that were replaced where put into the folder you specified on installation for safe keeping. However, there may be a problem with the files that were installed. This problem can sometimes be rectified by removing these files and running the run-time installer again.

To do this, search for the files listed at the end of this section in your Windows/System directory. When you find it, move it to a backup folder BUT DONT DELETE THEM. When this is done, try re-installing the Runtime files and try running the TPTCC installer.

Should you find that after running the TPTCC installer correctly that other application no-longer work, put the files you backed up back into your Windows/System folder.

The list of runtime files is as follows.

  • VB40016.DLL
  • OC25.DLL
  • VAEN21.OLB
  • CTL3DV2.DLL
  • DAO2516.DLL
  • MSAJT200.DLL
  • MSJETERR.DLL
  • MSJETINT.DLL
  • VBAJET.DLL
  • VBDB16.DLL
  • THREED16.OCX
  • OLE2.DLL
  • TYPELIB.DLL
  • OLE2DISP.DLL
  • OLE2PROX.DLL
  • OLE2CONV.DLL
  • STORAGE.DLL
  • COMPOBJ.DLL
  • OLE2.REG
  • OLE2NLS.DLL
  • STDOLE.TLB
  • SCP.DLL

"Error 31037 - Error loading from file"

This error appears to occur mostly on Windows 95 machines.

The problem seems to be caused by the file THREED16.OCX not being registered properly as and OLE control in the Windows 95 registry. This can be fixed by manually registering the control

    The method is...

Locate the file REGSVR.EXE located in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory. DONT USE REGSVR32.EXE! If you need a copy of REGSVR.EXE download it here and put it in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM DIRECTORY.

Next, press the 'Start' button and select run.

At the run prompt type 'REGSVR THREED16.OCX' and press O.K

You should then get a message saying that the control is registered. The installer should then run.

    Lockup with new multi.lst

This problem is caused by not having the correct number or type of cars in the /cars directory. Delete the old multi.lst, found in the /nascar2/cars directory, then create your own multi.lst inside the Driver's Info menu of NASCAR2. It will need to have 40 cars, so you may need to download and add more cars to the /cars directory to make it work.

If you continue to have problems with the installer, use these versions to install TPTCC. Follow the instructions in the read.me file. Please email us with the problems you had with the installer version.
